Studying at DePaul Training Centers
The DePaul Industries Training Center is a clerical training program. Our main objective is to help you gain skills needed for employment. This requires a lot of effort, determination, and perseverance on the part of the student. Though we are not a counseling service, we (along with your counselor) are here to support you. As with any new venture, there are many things to learn and many things to get used to. We encourage you to ask the instructors, interns and fellow students as many questions as you need to.
Basic Expectations Our job at DePaul is to help prepare you for an office environment. We
ask that you behave in a way that is appropriate for the workplace at
all times. Every student has a binder and a schedule listing what courses they
should be working on. The schedule tells you what you should be working
on at specific times throughout the day. Each course will have an
outline (found in your binder). Outlines help you keep track of where
you are in the book and also let you know when to take tests. You need
to follow along on the outline, and it is highly recommended that you
mark where you are on the outline as you work. The instructor tracks
your progress, but we require students to track their progress as well. Students are scheduled to practice typing and/or 10-key everyday. We have timed typing tests every day. Good typing and ten-key skills may make the difference in getting the job you want. Practice and perseverance are required to build speed. You will need to record your scores and turn in one score each week.
Computer Use You will be assigned a computer workstation when you begin your training at DePaul. The computer is provided for use in connection with business training, only. There should be no expectation of privacy concerning any work, messages, Internet use or other utilization of the DePaul computer. DePaul has the right to monitor your computer and Internet usage without notifying you. Inappropriate use may result in termination of your training.
