Leslie
Leslie came to DePaul’s Portland Training Center in May to gain the
skills needed to find long-term employment in an office setting. Because
of fibromyalgia, Leslie needed to avoid strenuous and tedious work that
required sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Leslie’s goals at the start of her program included improving her typing
speed, learning 10-key, and gaining computer skills required for
office/clerical work or as an administrative assistant.
Working through her self-paced courses, Leslie increased her typing
speed, reduced typing errors, and learned to type without looking at the
keys. She also gained new skills in Word and “Excel was a whole new
world to me,” said Leslie. “I feel more confident and secure in Word and
Excel.”
One month after starting her program with DePaul, Leslie found a job as
a receptionist. Leslie said, “My experience here was quite pleasant. The
instructors were very helpful in explaining things that came with
difficulty.”
