  Connie

Connie had previous experience running her own business, keeping up on all of the "office" related work; however, she came to DePaul with a long lapse of time following her last position as well as very limited computer abilities. She had the desire to move into an office setting, supporting staff and/or administration.

Connie had visited many different training facilities and made the decision that DePaul would fit her learning needs most appropriately. Connie was enrolled in our Office Assistant training program.

Throughout the four and a half months that Connie attended classes at the Training Center, she continually proved her motivation and determination to overcome all obstacles and challenges that she faces. Not only did she gain functional computer software knowledge, but she was able to increase her average typing speed from approximately 10 words per minute to approximately 40 words per minute.

Prior to the completion of her program, Connie was presented with the opportunity to apply for a Peer Coordinator position with the LIFE program, a state program focusing on providing independent living assistance for individuals. The Salem branch of the LIFE program is currently housed with one of the local Vocational Rehabilitation programs. Connie interviewed and was offered the position immediately. She was granted the flexibility to adjust her hours in order to accommodate her class schedule at DePaul.

Upon official completion of her program, Connie was eager to focus completely on her new position that is one promising growth and new challenges.
