At the beginning, it was a little scary. All this was new for me, but it all changed when I started coming to classes and learning new things.

Eva
Eva came to the Training Center, following years of work as a Certified Nurse Assistant. She has enjoyed working within the medical field, providing assistance to patients; however, following a back injury, she was no longer able to maintain the physical requirements necessary for a CNA. Eva needed some additional skills that would allow her to pursue other alternatives. Eva did not have any work related computer experience, and following guidance from her rehabilitation counselor, Eva enrolled in our four month Office Assistant program. Her goal was to be able to return to the medical field with a new set of marketable skills. Eva’s program emphasized basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, keyboarding, ten key, and additional basic clerical abilities. Not only did Eva leave the Training Center with a lot more confidence related to general computer use, but she discovered specific strengths that she had not been aware of before. Eva found that she enjoyed the creative elements of Word, which allowed her to design and create a variety of documents such as advertisements and newsletters. Additionally, Eva improved her overall typing speed by approximately 20 words per minute. Eva was able to move into an internship position with Mid-Valley Rehabilitation Inc. located in Amity, OR. This aligned perfectly with her goal to remain employed within the medical field using her newly developed skills. |
