Field Notes & Report Writing

An essential part of a Security Officer's job is providing accurate, factual reports both to DePaul and the customer. During training, you'll learn how to effectively take notes and prepare your reports. Security forms and reports vary from site to site. Common types of reports include:

  • • Daily & Event Occurrence
  • • Weekly Summary
  • • Motor Vehicle Accident
  • • Visitor Access Logs

Observation Skills & Memory

Professional security officers constantly utilize their observation skills (the five senses) and memory during the performance of their duties. These skills are key to helping you identify issues, take better notes, provide thorough reports, and assist law enforcement when necessary.

  • • How the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch, & taste) influence observation

  • • How to improve your senses with exercises

  • • What makes up a general description of a person

First Aid & CPR Training & Certification

In addition to the 12-hour officer training course, DePaul Security offers a 4-hour First Aid & CPR class. Upon completion and successful passing of the skills assessment, you will receive your Red Cross First Aid & CPR card.

DPSST Certification

DePaul Security Officers are required Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) certifications. DePaul does not cover the testing fees associated with certification. However, as part of our training course, we review the current DPSST Private Security Officer Training Manual to help you prepare for obtaining your certification.
